The 27th April Spring Friendship Art Festival
The 27th April Spring Friendship Art Festival was held in Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, from April 10 to 18, Juche 100 (2011) with the participation of 440 art troupes, artistes and individual figures in the cultural and art circles from more than 40 organizations in 16 countries.
The opening ceremony of the festival took place at the Ryugyong Jong Ju Yong Indoor Stadium.
At the opening ceremony the festival flag was hoisted and there was a congratulatory opening performance of the festival by the National Symphony Orchestra followed by a chorus and orchestral music Song of General Kim Il Sung, an immortal revolutionary song performed by the Mansudae Art Troupe and conducted by Maurer Wolfdieter from Austria.
During the festival, performances of art troupes and artistes took place at eight theatres in Pyongyang, including the East Pyongyang Grand Theatre and the Pyongyang Grand Theatre, in the form of group-by-group, singular and compatible performance.
Also held were the festival participants' recreation and sports games and other colourful cultural events.
At the closing ceremony diplomas and cups were awarded to the high-level art organs and artistes including the Moscow Classical Ballet of Russia and the Jilin Symphony Orchestra of China.
