  National Musical Instrument: Okryugum >>
  •   Okryugum is a flicking national musical instrument invented early in the 1970s under the wise leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
Chairman Kim Jong Il personally named it Okryugum as it produces notes as clear as beads.
The musical instrument consists of a rhomboid, U-shaped sound box and legs supporting it.
The upper surface of the sound box has a round sound hole with 33 strings fixed by clamps, bridge and sound changing device across it.
The musical instrument can be used in playing melodies, rhythms and arpeggio, and particularly in producing tremolo of national music.
For its fascinating timbre, it is widely used in playing solo and ensemble pieces.
