Kim Ok Song (June 30, 1916-October 25, 1965) was a talented composer who devoted himself to creating revolutionary musical compositions to the last moment of his life, true to President Kim Il Sung’s Juche-oriented idea on art and literature.
He became widely known around the world by creating orchestral music and chorus A Bumper Harvest in the Chongsan Plain.
During the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953) he, as a war composer, created many music pieces inspiring the soldiers of the Korean People’s Army to perform heroic exploits, including To a Decisive Battleand My Song in the Trench. After the war he produced Song of Mangyongdae,See the “Golden” Trees on the Hillsides,Rows of Apple Treesand other masterpieces of various themes.
For his contribution to the development of music and art, he was awarded the title of People’s Artist, Order of the National Flag First Class and many other orders and medals.
He still remains etched in the memory of the Korean people, as he composed many famous music pieces with burning enthusiasm under the warm care of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il.
