  Historical Relics in Pyongyang

  •   Korea, which has a long history, has many historical relics which are admired by the world people. As it was the capital of Tangun’s Korea, the first state of our country, and of Koguryo, a thriving state which existed for 1 000 years, Pyongyang was the center of politics, the economy and culture in the history of Korea. The modern city is dotted with many historical relics, which demonstrate the time-honoured history and resourcefulness of the Korean nation. Typical examples are the Walled City of Pyongyang which is permeated with the patriotic spirit and wisdom of the people who defended Pyongyang from foreign invaders, Ryongwang Pavilion on the bank of the Taedong River which is one of the eight scenic spots in the northwestern part of the country, Ulmil Pavilion on picturesque Moran Hill and Nam Gate of Taesongsan Fort. All these show the excellent architectural skill of the Korean people. The precious historical relics were destroyed during the military occupation of the country by Japan which pursued the policy of obliterating the national culture of Korea, and in the brutal air raids of the US imperialists during the Fatherland Liberation War. But, thanks to the leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea, they have regained their original looks and are shining brilliantly as the eternal treasures of the nation.
