People’s Artist Ri Myon Sang (born on April 8, 1908) was a talented composer who was loved and respected by the Korean people for having created many excellent songs to be handed down to posterity and thereby rendering a tangible contribution to the development of the art of song in the DPRK. He is best remembered for Glorious Motherland, his first successful song dedicated to the country after its liberation, Triumphant May which sings of the enthusiasm and stamina of the working people who turned out to create a new century, The Dear Home in My Native Village which sings the praise of ennobling sense of patriotism and confidence in victory of the soldiers and people in the grim days of the Fatherland Liberation War, and The Snow Is Falling which implants the revolutionary spirit in the coming generations. His songs will resound for ever in the sky over our country along with the development of the Republic.
